Prospect Profile

Following his freshman season at Texas, Morris transferred within the Big 12 and landed at Kansas. In a new system, he will look to live up to the expectations of being a top-20 player in his high school class and make the leap to the NBA in the summer of 2024.

Although he was in a bench role last season, Morris will have every opportunity to play much more in year two at the college level. He was considered by many as the top point guard prospect in his class entering last season, which speaks to his upside. With that in mind, he’s also capable of playing off-ball which should allow him even more of a chance at potentially earning a starting spot with the Jayhawks.

What makes Morris such an interesting prospect is the quickness he plays with. He has a ton of burst and is also built well for a player of his age. As a result, he’s able to get to his spots in a variety of ways and score at a high level. While he’s proven to be effective as a finisher and in mid-range situations, he will need to continue to round out his offensive game and emerge as a true three-level scoring threat. In his freshman campaign, he converted on 33.3% of his 87 attempts from beyond the arc, which will need to improve on higher volume this season.

Again, Morris is most known for his ability to produce points as a scorer, but don’t underestimate his vision. Especially in a high powered offense, he can generate assists and keep the offense flowing. With his ability to break down his defender and attract help from others, he should be able to find the open man to get easy buckets.

As a defender, Morris has the tools to be effective holding his own against either guard spot, boasting his speed and strength on the perimeter. During his lone season at Texas, he had a nose for the ball and notched 3.2 steals per 100 possessions. Not only is he disruptive, but he’s also a smart player that understands how to play within a scheme. In terms of carving out a role and getting on the floor at Kansas, this end of the floor will be important.

As talented as the former Longhorn is, Kansas has a loaded roster this season. With several potential future NBA players in Hunter Dickinson, Elmarko Jackson, Kevin McCullar, KJ Adams and others, Morris will certainly have to earn his minutes.
