NBA Draft Scouting Report: Kentucky's Robert Dillingham
Robert Dillingham
Guard | Kentucky
Height: 6'2” | Weight: 160 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 19.46
Prospect Profile
A lightning quick combo guard, Dillingham is undersized with a thin build but has the handle and shiftiness to create for himself. He also possesses great athleticism and pop that allows him to play above the rim.
Dillingham’s handle is flashy, although that gets him in trouble at times. While having the ability to break down a defender in isolation is a good skill to possess, it needs to be leveraged in the right scenarios. Similarly, he’s an advanced shot maker but could certainly work on improving the quality of his looks. Simply put, he has tremendous upside but will need to prove he can be efficient and under control.
Although he’s a good passer and has what it takes to run point, Dillingham is best as a creator for himself. He’s a crafty finisher at the rim and also has a reliable jumper. He’ll need to continue improving on his efficiency from the perimeter, but the scoring upside shouldn’t be in question. He’s great at attacking space and getting to the line as well.
Again, Dillingham is a good passer but will need to prove he’s unselfish in the big moments. He’s naturally the type of player that wants to take the last shot, but could improve his decision making in late-game scenarios. It will be interesting to see what he does in a controlled halfcourt setting at Kentucky. He’s best on high volume with a green light, but will have to be effective in a complimentary role given the talented Wildcats roster.
Defensively there’s some questions with Dillingham, as he’s small both from a height and frame standpoint. He has the speed and hands to generate steals and deflections, but could struggle against bigger modern guards overall.
The former MVP of the FIBA Americas U16 Championship, Dillingham had an interesting path to Kentucky. He played his junior high school season at Donda Academy then signed with OTE's Cold Hearts before making the college jump. The five-star recruit will get to play with multiple future NBA talents like Justin Edwards, DJ Wagner, Zvonimir Ivisic, Aaron Bradshaw and Ugonna Onyenso as a freshman.
