Prospect Profile

A freshman center set to make a big impact at Louisville this season, Evans has great size with a 9-foot-8 standing reach. This impact, especially early on in the college level, will mostly be made on the defensive end, but that’s not to say he doesn’t have some impressive skills offensively. Evans is an extremely efficient finisher inside the paint that has underrated touch from all-around the floor. He’s a lob threat at all times due to his wide catch radius and pop at the rim.

The center still has some cleaning up to do as a post scorer and passer which limits his overall ceiling as go-to scoring option for a team but he’s a great complementary piece that NBA teams desperately look for at the center position. His shooting upside is what tends to shock a lot of people and future people that begin to watch him as the left-handed big man has shown very enticing flashes by stretching the floor out to the three-point line.

He’s still quite inconsistent as a shooter but at 18-years old he still has a lot of time to develop his shooting and if he’s able to become a more consistent outside shooter paired with his elite defensive upside, we could be talking about a potential top lottery pick in the 2024 NBA draft.

Evans will make his presence felt immediately at the college level with his high level defensive impact. As stated above he stands at 7-foot-1, but it’s his 7-foot-7 wingspan and great paint defense that allows him to be arguably the best shot-blocking prospect eligible for the upcoming draft. The Louisville center has a chance to lead the ACC in blocks per game as a freshman which isn’t a very common thing to happen.

It’s undeniable that the four-star center has some of the best defensive tools in the entire country, but he does have some weak points defensively that he’ll need to clean up as the season moves along. The biggest worry for him, especially as a freshman is if he’s able to stay out of foul trouble. Evans has a tendency to pick up unnecessary fouls that could often force him to sit on the bench so he doesn’t end up getting fouled out early in the game.

Evans finished his career in high school at Hillcrest in California as the all-time leader in blocks (563) and triple-doubles (7). He also finished second in scoring (1,083 career points) and rebounds (794). Now, he’ll look to break out at the college level and take his talents to the NBA.
