Prospect Profile
One of the most athletic combo forwards in this freshman class, Carr is a strong lefty that has the ability to change the game in transition. He’s a powerful dunker that uses his strength and frame to his advantage. Anytime he gets near the rim, the Michigan State prospect is looking to dunk the ball.
As of today, the explosive athlete is best at being a play finisher. Especially in a collegiate system, it will be interesting to see if can get the opportunity to showcase improvement as more of a playmaker. If he’s able to start creating more for himself, Carr’s draft stock could rise quickly. Furthermore, he’s most effective inside of the arc, but will need to expand his range out to the perimeter to have an offensive game that translates better at the NBA level.
While he’s very good getting to the rim and finishing with power, Carr does favor his left hand. An area of improvement will be getting better with his right and adding more touch in the paint. Until then, he boasts the ability to absorb contact and finish in traffic well. When it comes to finishing near the basket, there will be few freshman as effective as the 6-foot-7 prospect this season.
On the defensive end of the floor, there’s a lot of upside with Carr given his combination of height and strength. There has been times in the past in which he lacks discipline, but that can be overcome in a college system. He should have the ability to switch onto nearly any type of player if Carr can refine his defensive game and buy into the team’s scheme.
A four-star recruit, Carr was a standout on the 2022 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 World Cup Team, where his athleticism was really showcased. With the Spartans this season, he’ll get the chance to play alongside two other potential one-and-done players in Xavier Booker and Jeremy Fears.
