Prospect Profile

One of the youngest players in this class, Fears will compete as an 18 year old his entire freshman season. In fact, if he does opt to enter into the 2024 NBA Draft and makes the jump to the league, he won’t turn 20 until the end of his rookie season.

This is especially impressive given Fears is an incredible decision maker and a pure point guard. He has what it takes to run an efficient offense and processes the game at a high level. While he doesn’t have elite positional size, the IQ makes up for it and he should be able to remain effective as he continues to increase the level of competition he’s going up against. When it comes to controlling the pace of a game, facilitating and knowing when it’s the right time to get a bucket of his own, Fears is ready for that next step.

It will be interesting to see how he impacts the game at Michigan State. While he’s proven to be a quality passer and lead guard, Fears can also create his own shot. The jumper still needs to improve, but is already reliable enough to keep defenses honest. He’s also extremely quick and shifty which allows him to knife through the defense and get to his spots.

Again, Fears is undersized but still has the tools to be a good defender. Whether it’s at the point of attack or off the ball in passing lanes, he’s disruptive and smart about how to defend. He has quick hands, a high motor and good instincts on that end of the floor. He also is just an incredible competitor that gives it his all.

A huge recruit, Fears continued to get better as his high school career went on. While it’s unclear how good they will be, the Spartans will have a trio of incredibly talented freshman in Fears, Xavier Booker and Coen Carr. All three have what it takes to go one-and-done, which is why this is such an impressive recruiting class at Michigan State. Fears isn’t a name being discussed as much as it should entering this season, but that could change very soon. He’s a natural leader that possesses the traits NBA teams look for.
