NBA Draft Scouting Report: North Carolina's Elliot Cadeau
Elliot Cadeau
Guard | North Carolina
Height: 6'1” | Weight: 175 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 19.96
Prospect Profile
An undersized guard, Cadeau boats the IQ and feel for the game makes up for the lack of size. He’s a pure point guard that prefers to generate good looks for his teammates over scoring for himself.
The incoming North Carolina freshman has incredible vision and is effective at playing the angles and facilitating a high performing offense. With the ball in his hands, Cadeau is shifty and has a variety of dribble moves plus a great change of pace. He almost always makes the right decision and is incredibly smart. Making plays is what the incoming freshman does.
As much upside as Cadeau has passing the ball, he’s also a capable scorer. He has a reliable jumper but also can finish well around the rim. It will be interesting to see how many shots he attempts this season with the Tar Heels, as it wouldn’t be surprising to see him be a low volume shooter. Regardless, he should be one of the best freshman in the country at running pick-and-roll sets with his athleticism and ability to set up teammates while making quick decisions.
Defensively, Cadeau has the quickness and hand-eye coordination to make things happen, but at 6-foot-1 is somewhat limited. He’ll be restricted to defending mostly lead guards and smaller off-ball players moving forward.
A five-star recruit, Cadeau is one of the most skilled guards in his class and should instantly enhance North Carolina’s offense. The former Link Academy standout will have to overcome being undersized, but has what it takes to do just that. Pure point guards are harder to find in the modern era of basketball, but he plays that old school style.
Since he reclassified to join the Tar Heels a year early, Cadeau will still be 19 at the time of the 2024 NBA Draft. The Swedish guard has already played some for the senior National team, which further speaks to how skilled he is for a teenager.
