NBA Draft Scouting Report: Ohio State's Scotty Middleton
Scotty Middleton
Wing | Ohio State
Height: 6'7” | Weight: 190 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 20.62
Prospect Profile
An Ohio State freshman with all of the tools to be an NBA player one day, Middleton is a name to keep an eye on this season. He has good height and length for a wing that can also slide down and play off-ball guard.
Offensively, he’s more of a complimentary piece. Middleton likely won’t need to be a primary creator as a freshman, but if he can show flashes of the ability to do so, it will do a lot for his draft stock. As of today, he doesn’t have much ability to self-create or generate his own shot, which is really one of his primary areas to grow.
Middleton is certainly more raw on that end of the floor than he is on the other, but something he should be able to lean on is his smooth jumper. He can rise above defenders, but needs to continue improving as a movement shooter. When handling the ball and driving to the rim, he’s a bit loose with it, so strength and body control are two more things he should look to work on as a freshman. With that in mind, he’s really effective in transition.
In year one for Middleton offensively, it’s all about being a play finisher, spot-up shooter and complimentary scorer while flashing other upside that can be developed moving forward.
Defense is what Middleton does best as of today. He’s a great perimeter defender that is physical, yet agile and can switch onto many different positions. He moves his feet very well and uses long arms to his advantage. Again, if he can get stronger - which should naturally happen with time - he will just be even better on this end of the floor.
The former five-star recruit played at Sunrise Christian Academy which allowed him to be a high performer on the biggest stage at that level. Middleton could end up being a multi-year college player, but two-way wings always have a shot at making it to the NBA.
