Prospect Profile
Considering he was a freshman playing in the Big 12, Uzan’s first college campaign was extremely impressive. Not only was his role prominent — starting 75% of the games he played in — but he earned 2023 Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors. As a sophomore, he’ll have the chance to really break out and make a name for himself as an NBA prospect.
Uzan grew up playing point guard, but can play off-ball as well with his shooting upside. He’s especially good in spot-up situations and has a reliable perimeter jumper. He shot better than 40% from deep on more than two attempts as a freshman. Uzan’s release is quick and he almost always makes sure he gets square and has a good base on his shot.
When the ball is in his hands, Uzan does have the ability to create for himself. He’s shown early flashes of a blossoming midrange game with great touch on runners and floaters. While he does need to improve his shot selection at times, that’s expected given he was a freshman last season. As good as the perimeter shot is and midrange game could become, 40% of Uzan’s shots are at the rim (converting on almost 60% of those) and he finishes well with both hands.
The passing upside (20.8% assist rate) is real with Uzan and he can distribute with both hands accurately. He did turn it over too much in year one though — Big 12 play is tough — but his passing is much better than the stats even show. He should be one of the better pick-and-role handlers in the conference this season. Uzan isn’t yet a great defender, but the numbers indicate he could get there. He notched a 1.9 DBPM last season, but he needs to get stronger to reach his ceiling on that end. He’s still pretty slender, but if he can fill out he will only get even better. His frame looks like it can hold much more weight. Uzan’s defensive production this season should be a huge swing skill for draft stock.
A former four-star recruit, Uzan will play an even bigger role at Oklahoma this season and has sophomore breakout potential.
