Prospect Profile

Evans is a potential one-and-done freshman that should have the opportunity to make an immediate impact at Oregon. He’s a lefty, but can finish with both hands and plays a very smooth game. At 6-foot-9, he has incredible length and is continuing to add muscle to his frame. He moves with immense fluidity for his size and is a good athlete, although he’s more smooth than bursty on that front.

He’s definitely more of a modern forward with a perimeter-oriented game, but Evans has the potential to be much more. He lacks a true post game as of today, mostly because he’s thin, but has a smooth jumper. He needs to get much more consistent from beyond the arc from both a mechanics and efficiency standpoint, but there’s no doubt he could become the perfect wing at the NBA level. The Oregon freshman will need to keep polishing his perimeter skills, but he does fit what teams are looking for in the modern NBA.

Evans also has good vision for his size and has no problem pulling down a rebound and pushing the break, which is important for any NBA player. He is comfortable handling the ball even in halfcourt situations, but it will be interesting to see how much freedom he gets as a freshman.

On the other end, Evans has the potential to be a very versatile defender. He boasts the foot speed and length to take on smaller wings, but also has a frame that could fill out and allow him to adequately defend centers situationally at the next level if he gets stronger. He certainly isn’t an elite paint presence today, but his length is crazy and the potential is there.

At the end of the day Evans is more of an upside guy that has the tools to be really good, but hasn’t been all that productive to date. Regardless, NBA teams will likely buy into his potential and take a shot on him if he even has a mediocre freshman year. The former five-star recruit played at at Montverde alongside several future NBA talents, so the stage shouldn’t be too big for him at the college level.
