Prospect Profile

One of the most impressive freshman in the country this season thus far has been Carrington. Not only is the first-year sensation already proving to be ahead of schedule in terms of development and college impact but he’s also extremely young. In fact, the Pittsburgh prospect will still be 18 on the night of the 2024 NBA Draft.

As Carrington’s frame keeps filling out, he will only continue to thrive at this level. He’s a combo guard that is effective on-ball and off-ball on the perimeter, but is best as a lead guard. When he has the ball, he’s able to make things happen for himself and others as a true playmaker. The off-ball skills also exist, but that’s certainly part of the game he can improve upon.

With his positional size, Carrington is a triple-double threat every single night. He’s a great rebounder for a guard and also is one of the perimeter passers among all freshman. He truly does it all on the court and can absolutely stuff the stat sheet. His assist rate is remarkable for a player of his age and he’s proven to be able to take care of the ball.

As a scorer, Carrington is extremely fluid and gets to his spots in unique ways. He has a good change of pace and solid body control while allows him to do things on that end of the floor that others can't. He’s a proven midrange scorer that has more recently shown he can also consistently get it done from beyond the arc as well. If there’s one part of his scoring package that needs to be refined more, it’s his ability to not only finish at the rim, but also get there more frequently.

Regardless, Carrington is an ultra efficient scorer for his age. He’s also fantastic in pick-and-role situations, which should translate well at the next level.

Defensively, the Pittsburgh guard the size and lateral speed to be an effective defender. He really has a lot he can prove on that end as a freshman, which could end up helping his draft stock tremendously if the two-way talent is real.

A former four-star recruit, Carrington is the second cousin of Rudy Gay. He was an extremely productive player throughout high school and that has translated in college. His box scores are truly remarkable for a freshman playing in a major conference.

While Carrington entered the season as a prospect to keep an eye on, he’s now a legitimate first-round talent with the way he had broken out.
