Prospect Profile

A solid combo forward with NBA upside, Hopkins played less than 200 minutes at Kentucky his freshman year before transferring to Providence. He has great positional side and is a good athlete that offers quite a bit on both ends. Last season with the Friars, he led the team in both points and rebounds. Given his size, his ability to clean the glass is a very translatable skill at the next level.

On the offensive end, Hopkins can create some for himself off the bounce, but hasn’t shown ability to be primary creator. He needs to improve his handle and prove he can be someone that can truly lead an effective offense. If Hopkins continues to show his 3-point shooting is real on a larger sample size, it’ll go a long way in solidifying him as a draftable prospect in 2024. When it comes to generating buckets, he gets it done with a blend of size power and skill.

In the upcoming season, it will be important for Hopkins to show that he can play a variety of roles. While he’ll likely be the team’s top offensive weapon, NBA teams will want to get a glimpse at how he can impact the game without the ball in his hands. At the next level, at least early on, he’ll be more of a complimentary piece.

While he isn’t an elite defensive prospect, Hopkins is tough and has the size and speed to defend multiple positions. Whether it’s on the perimeter or in the paint against a more modern forward, he can take on a variety of positions on that end.

Again, he’ll want to make sure he showcases that in his junior season. It’s one thing to have the size and skills to guard a variety of positions, but it’s another to actually do it. Taking another step defensively this season, especially as it relates to versatility, strength and lateral quickness will be key.
