NBA Draft Scouting Report: Tulane's Jaylen Forbes
Jaylen Forbes
Guard | Tulane
Height: 6'5” | Weight: 195 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 23.52
Prospect Profile
After spending his freshman season at Alabama, Forbes transferred to Tulane and has been a primary scorer for the team in the three years since. A skilled prospect with good positional size, he fits as an off-ball guard at the next level, especially since he isn’t the best playmakers for others.
Forbes is patient with the ball in his hands, but has been turnover prone at times. He isn’t lightning quick, but rather leverages his strong frame to get to his spots. He’s great at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line, which is a translatable skill.
Where Forbes is best is as an off-ball shooter. He’s a good 3-point threat that coverts at a high rate both in rhythm and off of one or two dribbles. Given he’s 6-foot-5, he is also a good positional rebounder which is beneficial to any team.
The lack of quickness does limit Forbes defensively, as he can’t guard perimeter players with elite speed. At the next level, this could be somewhat concerning given the level of athleticism most players posses.
Regardless, tall shooters are always valued in the NBA, which is what Forbes provides. After dropping out of the 2023 NBA Draft process in late May, the former four-star, top 100 recruit has a clear role that could be filled at the next level in 2024.
