Prospect Profile

After a fantastic freshman season at St. Thomas — earning All-Summit League First Team and Summit League Freshman of the Year honors — Rohde hit the transfer portal and landed with Virginia for the upcoming season. He was one of the most underrated players in college basketball last season, but will have more of a spotlight as a sophomore. While he didn’t go up against high-level competition consistently at St. Thomas, Rohde did perform well in the handful of games against Power 5 teams. Furthermore, he got better as the season went on, finishing his freshman year with five-straight games of 20 or more points, including eight out of the last ten as well.

At 6-foot-6, he has great positional size and scores well from multiple levels. Rohde has a really good first step for his height and is shifty with the ball in his hands. He possesses good touch around rim and has the ability to run pick-and-roll as the handler.

Rohde’s perimeter shooting efficiency wasn't great last year (32% from deep overall), but there’s more to it than just the numbers. Given his role and responsibility, he attempted deep, difficult and advanced looks. His numbers should go up with more talent around him and less pressure to create looks for himself this season. There’s no question he can get hot in a hurry, regardless. Rohde shot better than 40% from deep the last two months of the season, and is an elite free throw shooter, so there’s reason for optimism.

While he’s the size of a wing, Rohde also has passing upside and even notched an eight-assist game last season. A solid connector, he will get the opportunity to play some as the lead guard next season. He’s a good secondary playmaker and natural leader that makes those around him better.

The former St. Thomas standout is an active defender that actually was pretty disruptive as a freshman, but will need to prove he can do it against much better competition this season. He is also a decent defensive rebounder, but could be better for his size.

Rohde was a 5-foot-10, 100-pound freshman in high school when his team won the state title, then went on a growth spurt and now finds himself playing at an elite basketball school in Virginia several years later. The former three-star recruit was one of best transfer portal players and will get every opportunity to showcase his talent to NBA teams this season. He’ll also get to play alongside several potential draft picks in Reece Beekman and Ryan Dunn among others.
