NBA Draft Scouting Report: Wake Forest's Hunter Sallis
Hunter Sallis
Guard | Wake Forest
Height: 6'5” | Weight: 185 lbs
2024 Draft Age: 21.24
Prospect Profile
After two seasons at Gonzaga coming off the bench, Sallis was one of the better players to hit the transfer portal and will be taking his talents to Wake Forest. Set to play a more prominent role, the talented guard will have a real chance to break out in year three.
A combo guard that can also slide up to the wing, Sallis is a great athlete that can make big things happen. He’s pretty versatile for his size, but is probably better suited playing off the ball. With that in mind, he can also handle the ball when needed as a lead guard, flashing some passing upside last season. However, he had a higher turnover than assist rate in both of his first two college seasons.
Sallis has tremendous potential as a scorer, both as a self-creator and off-ball shooter. The 3-point percentages haven’t been great to this point at the collegiate level, but the jumper is smooth and relatively quick. If he can improve on that front, his stock will rise. Nonetheless, he’s good as a driver and scores well in the midrange and at the rim.
Although he has a slender build, Sallis is a disruptive defender and plays with a ton of energy. He has the physical tools to end up being really impactful on that end, but will need to get stronger to reach his ceiling. If he's able to do that, he should emerge as a second-round player in the 2024 NBA Draft with two-way versatility for Wake Forest this season.
A former five-star recruit, Sallis was one of the best players in his class entering college. Now that he has a change of scenery, perhaps he can reach his full potential and make the jump to the NBA this summer. He will be 21 on the night of the upcoming draft, but is relatively inexperienced for his age given his limited role as a freshman and sophomore at Gonzaga.
