Adam Silver Gives New Statement on Ja Morant's Punishment
When Adam Silver addressed the media during his NBA Finals media availability, he made comments on Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant that seemed to indicate a significant suspension will be coming as a result of the league's investigation into Morant's latest gun video incident.
This has led many to believe that Silver may attempt to send a message with whatever punishment is handed out to Morant; however, the commissioner recently joined the NBA Finals pregame show and clarified some of that.
"I get a little nervous when people talk about sending a message," Silver said. "Sometimes it implies that you may not be fair to that individual player."
For context, this is what Silver said during that initial press conference:
"We look at both the history of prior acts, and we look at the individual player's history as well," Silver said. "And the seriousness of course of the conduct... In terms of the timing, we've uncovered a fair amount of additional information... We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we made the decision, and I believe the player association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce in the middle of this series to announce the results of that investigation."
While Morant will be disciplined for his actions, Silver wants to make sure the basketball world knows he is assessing this situation for what it is, rather than using it as an opportunity to send a message.
