BREAKING: Grizzlies to Sign Former NBA MVP
It was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that the Memphis Grizzlies have agreed to a deal with veteran point guard and former NBA MVP Derrick Rose. Wojnarowski said the Grizzlies expect to use Rose on the court while also valuing his veteran leadership in the locker room.
With Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games of the season, the Grizzlies will need point guard depth, which is something Rose will provide. Not in the rotation for the New York Knicks much last season, Rose should have an opportunity to make an impact on the court for Memphis next season, at least at the start while Morant is away.
The NBA MVP in 2011, Rose has had a long career even despite his injuries. The Grizzlies are hopeful that he can still contribute to winning basketball at this stage of his career, but even if his minutes are limited, Memphis can certainly use Rose's veteran experience in a locker room filled with a lot of young players.
There has been a lot of talk about the Grizzlies needing to add veterans, and they have now added at least one with the addition of Rose. It is still just the first day of free agency, so the Grizzlies could still make several more moves in between now and the start of the new season.
