Chris Paul Gets Honest About Ja Morant
During a recent episode of Uninterrupted's The Shop, NBA veteran Chris Paul spoke on Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant. The topic of Morant was brought up in a discussion about veteran leadership and the role head coaches play in guiding younger players, and Paul interjected with a story about Morant.
"It's so crazy, because I'm a big Ja fan," Paul said. "Ja came to my basketball camp when he was in college. He came in the camp, nobody really knew who he was like that. And after camp, everybody knew who he was. That's when he blew up, and all the NBA scouts."
On growing up while being an NBA star, Paul added, "What I'll say about Ja, just me being in the league and my position as president of the union for so long, is that everything that you guys said is so real. But it happens so fast."
Paul went on to tell a story about how young he was when he came into the league, and how difficult it was dealing with the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, while also being expected to be the best possible basketball player. The veteran guard said he would love to talk to Ja, but he seemed to suggest that this is one of those situations where a young player is going through the growing pains of becoming an NBA star while growing up as a person at the same time.
