Former Grizzlies Big Man Signs With Eastern Conference Team
It was announced by James Edwards of The Athletic that former Memphis Grizzlies big man Jontay Porter has signed an Exhibit-10 deal with the Detroit Pistons. This will earn Porter an invite to Detroit's camp where he will look to make a strong impression on their organization.
Porter has just 11 games of NBA experience, all of which came with the Grizzlies during the 2020-21 season. Playing 17 games for the Wisconsin Herd last season, Porter averaged a double-double with 11.5 PPG and 11.4 RPG. An interesting shot profile for someone his size, Porter took over half of his field goal attempts from three point range last season, but converted just 28.7% of those attempts. This led to just a 35.3% clip from the field overall for Porter during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks' G-League affiliate.
The Pistons have multiple young bigs already on their roster, so there doesn't look to be much of a path for Porter to break camp with the big club; however, a solid showing in training camp could earn him a look with the Motor City Cruise.
Exhibit-10 deals do not often lead to roster spots, but they are a great opportunity for players looking to stick around the league. A solid showing in camp could be the first step towards a spot in the G-League or NBA down the line.
