The Memphis Grizzlies made the move to extend Desmond Bane, agreeing to a five-year, $207M contract extension with the rising star, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Bane's star teammate Ja Morant has been taking a break from social media for most of the summer, but jumped on Twitter to react to the major move:

Morant and Bane have emerged as one of the best backcourts in the NBA. With Morant being an All-NBA level talent, Bane has complimented him incredibly well, averaging 21.5 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 4.4 APG last season. Bane was also one of the league's best three-point shooters last season, converting on 40.8% of his attempts from deep.

While $207M feels like a lot of money for a player who has never been an All-Star, Bane just turned 25 years old, and certainly has All-Star potential. Even at his current production, Bane is the perfect guard next to Morant, and has proven the ability to step up as a primary scoring option when Morant misses time.

The Grizzlies remain intent on building around their core of Morant, Bane, and Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr., who is still just 23 years old. Extending Bane is the first step towards doing this, and Memphis hopes it can continue acquiring the necessary pieces around what is already a very solid core group of players.
