Jaren Jackson Jr. Reveals Honest Thoughts on Anthony Davis
During a recent episode of Podcast P, which is presented by Wave Sports and Entertainment, Memphis Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. discussed what it was like defending Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis in the playoffs.
"I definitely learned that tendencies is everything, especially when you’re going over scouts, you just gotta be very aware because a guy like him, he’s gonna score," Jackson Jr. said. "You gotta make it hard, you gotta do your work early, cut off that left hand. You know how he is, he’s going to his left, now he’s body bump, midrange, pull-up, midrange, catch-and-shoots, three-ball every now and then. Great player, so just like every possession does matter with him. You get him going, then he’s in his rhythm, his mindset changes, he’s more in attack mode. You just wanna... make it hard for him at every turn. But he went crazy."
While Jackson Jr. won the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year award, he has a lot of respect for what Davis was able to do in that opening round. The play of Davis was a big reason why the Lakers were able to handle the Grizzlies with relative ease, as his offensive output took scoring pressure off of LeBron James and other Lakers players.
The Grizzlies learned a lot from that first round exit to the Lakers, and they are prepared to enter next season better equipped for the playoffs.
