While Marcus Smart was an invaluable piece on the court for the Boston Celtics during his time there, his biggest contributions may have come in the locker room. A vocal leader, Smart was the loudest voice on those teams, and it worked well.

In a recent interview with The Messenger's Jeff Goodman, Celtics star Jayson Tatum got brutally honest about Smart being traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, saying, "I am for sure going to miss Smart. He was my teammate for six years and we’ve been through it all. We had good moments together, we had bad moments together. He’s somebody that I wish was going be my teammate forever."

While some have expected Smart's departure to impact the leadership style of Tatum, the Celtics star told Goodman that's not happening.

"I'm never going to be Kevin Garnett," Tatum told Goodman. "As much as people want me to be, that’s not who I am. The way I lead, the public may not ever see what I do. When I need to, I make sure my voice is heard and I do it in my own way. I’m not going to be out there jumping up and down screaming. That’s just not my personality. As much as people want to talk about it and want me to be that, I’m not changing who I am. I lead in my own way. When I talk, everybody in that organization is going to listen. And whatever I say is always for the betterment of the team — and my teammates know that."

Leading in his own way, even in the absence of Smart, Tatum will continue to do what's made him and his team successful up until this point. While he will miss Smart a lot, Tatum isn't changing who he is to fill that void.
