When the Memphis Grizzlies first traded for Marcus Smart, many people discussed the positive impact the former Boston Celtics leader could have on Ja Morant. This is something Smart was asked about in a recent interview, and gave an honest answer about helping Morant.

"Everybody keeps saying that," Smart said of the opportunity to mentor Morant. "It will be a perfect fit for me with my veteran skills that I have, my mentality, my attitude, and just seeing the game differently. For me, I'm excited to go play with a player like Ja who is still evolving, and still has a lot to go. I'm glad to be part of his progression as well, so I'm gonna do everything in my ability to help this team in Memphis and help Ja."

Smart was surprised when hearing that the Celtics had traded him, but the newest Grizzlies player is excited for this new opportunity in Memphis. It was not long ago that the Grizzlies were known for their "grit and grind" culture, which is something smart fits perfectly.

With everything the Grizzlies have experienced over the last year, there is real reason to believe they will enter next season with a new level of focus. Adding a player like Smart certainly helps in that category, which is why so many think it will be a great fit.
