Marcus Smart Gets Honest About Role With Grizzlies
Marcus Smart is coming to the Memphis Grizzlies not to just be a member of the team, but to be a leader. The Grizzlies are a team that desperately needs a responsible leader, and Smart knows that is what's expected of him.
In an interview with Chris Vernon, Smart spoke very candidly about his leadership role with the Memphis Grizzlies.
"That's who I am," Smart said. "That's who I was with Boston. That's one of the reasons why my name and my reputation proceeds me so much, because I am that guy. I'm also not the guy to just talk about it, I'm going to go out there and show you my actions as well."
One thing that Smart was really looking forward to was the pairing of him and Derrick Rose. While many believe Rose doesn't have much to give on the court anymore, he's still one of the most beloved NBA players that people in the locker room listen to.
"To have a guy in D-Rose who is coming back to Memphis, who's very loved, we all know what he's done in his career, and what he's done here when he was at Memphis University," Smart said. "The connectivity that he has with this city, that's going to be just as important as anything anyone realizes."
Marcus Smart is confident that with the combination of both himself and Derrick Rose, the duo can bring the leadership that the Grizzlies desperately need. It's going to be difficult, but he knows that is what's expected.
"It's hard to look up and follow somebody that is trying to do the same thing you did and hasn't done anything better than you," Smart said. "It's hard. It's definitely a responsibility that me and D-Rose have."
It's going to be a bumpy start of the season for the Grizzlies without Ja Morant, and Smart will have his work cut out for him from day one.
