After being traded from the Boston Celtics to the Memphis Grizzlies, Marcus Smart opened up in a recent interview about moving on from the franchise he has spent his entire career with.

"We was expecting [to stay in Boston]," Smart said. "But for me, I understand the business side of it. Anybody who knows me knows that I'm the first one to tell people, you can't put personal with business, it just doesn't mix. And if you do, you're going to get yourself hurt. I understand it’s a business."

While Smart understands the business side of basketball, he also wishes the Celtics would have given him more of a heads up.

"But for me, it was just the courtesy," Smart added. "They probably already knew they were thinking about trading me. They had this trade in their back pocket just in case something else didn’t happen. And for me, it's just the simple fact, 'Hey, we're thinking about trading you, most likely we'll trade you, just letting you know.'"

There are a lot of players who express these same feelings after being dealt, especially if they have meant as much to an organization as Smart did to Boston. The unfortunate reality of NBA basketball is that almost nobody is off limits in trade discussions, even players like Smart who are the heart and soul of their teams.
