Memphis Mayor Reveals Update on Future of Grizzlies
The Grizzlies have been the basketball team of Memphis since 2001 and their future has been a bit unclear, but the city's mayor gave a small update about the team.
Memphis mayor Jim Strickland revealed that $230 million in state funds will go toward renovations at FedExForum. Not only that, but Strickland also gave a statement on trying to secure Memphis as the home for the Grizzlies in the future.
“We are still working with the Grizzlies to finalize a deal to keep them in Memphis for an additional 25 years, and I am optimistic we can reach a framework of an agreement soon,” Strickland said.
From 1995-2001 the Grizzlies belonged to the city of Vancouver. Ever since then, the team has found a home in the city of Memphis. Some of the team's best moments have been in Memphis. The biggest moment in franchise history was when Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, and the "Grit and Grind" team went to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history. Since then, the team has found a new star in Ja Morant but still hasn't quite made that Conference Finals run again.
It remains to be seen if Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson, Desmond Bane, and the Grizzlies can lead this city to its first championship ever, but this core is the best chance the team will have at doing it.
