NBA Player Defends Deion Sanders After Oregon Coach's Comments

Former Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones defended Deion Sanders after Dan Lanning's comments

Oregon Ducks football coach Dan Lanning sparked controversy with his pregame comments about the Colorado Buffaloes, saying they're playing for clicks while Oregon is playing for wins. Ironically, these comments have generated millions of clicks, with many people pointing out what they feel is hypocrisy from Lanning.

One of the people who publicly reacted to these comments was former Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones, who defended Deion Sanders with this Tweet:

Jones doesn't understand why coaches like Lanning are mad at Sanders, and said people will still be tuned in for Colorado Football next week despite this tough loss. Jones certainly has a point, because even without the ironic nature of Lanning’s comments, they also aren't entirely accurate.

While Lanning may have a point about the media coverage Colorado has generated, suggesting that's all the care about is clearly untrue. With a 3-0 start, the Buffaloes surpassed their entire win total from last season in just three games. Had they struggled out of the gate, the media coverage would have looked a lot different. Because of this, it’s unfair to suggest they don’t care about winning.

These comments from Lanning have sparked a lot of discussion, with some agreeing with him while others, like Jones, feel they’re misguided. It was a big win for Oregon, but much of the story has now become about what Lanning had to say about Colorado before the game.
