BREAKING: Saddiq Bey, Atlanta Hawks Fail to Reach Contract Extension /
In this story:

Today was the deadline for players on the final year of their first-round rookie scale contract as well as extension-eligible veterans with two years left on their deal to sign those extensions. The Atlanta Hawks had two players that were up for those extensions, center Onyeka Okongwu and forward Saddiq Bey, and only one of those players had their contracts extended by the deadline today and that was Okongwu, who signed a four-year $62 million dollar extension earlier. Bey did not reach a deal with Atlanta and will hit restricted free agency at the end of the season.

Both Bey and Okongwu are going to be huge pieces to this Atlanta team in 2023. Bey is likely going to be the starting four alongside Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, De'Andre Hunter, and Clint Capela, while Okongwu is one of the best backup centers in the league that has been pushing for more and more minutes over the past couple of seasons. Okongwu was a lottery selection for Atlanta back in 2020 and the Hawks traded for Bey at the trade deadline last season. Bey was the 19th overall pick in 2020 for the Detroit Pistons.

BREAKING: Onyeka Okongwu Signs Contract Extension With the Hawks

Bey played in 25 games for the Hawks after being acquired at the deadline and averaged 11.6 PPG and 4.9 RPG, while shooting 47% from the floor and 40% from three. He had a nice run in the postseason and will look to carry that momentum into the season.
