Trae Young Among 41 Finalists For 2024 USA Men's National Basketball Team

The 2024 Olympic Games are Slated to Begin on July 26th

Today, USA Basketball announced a 41-athlete player pool for the 2024 USA Basketball Men's National Team. Among those 41 finalists are Hawks point guard Trae Young.

Young is currently having one of the best seasons of his career and is in the running for the 2024 NBA All-Star game. This season, Young is averaging 26.9 PPG and 10.8 APG. The 12-member team will represent the United States at the Olympic Summer Games in Paris, which will be announced after the NBA season.

This is a huge honor to be considered and while it is going to be competitive, Young could be able to make the team and hopefully bring home the Gold Medal. The opening ceremonies for the Olympics will be on Friday, July, 26th.

When it comes to the All-Star Game, the starters are going to be announced this Thursday.

When it comes to guards, Trae Young remains in second place in All-Star Voting. He is far behind Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton, but Bucks guard Damian Lillard is still not far behind in third place.

Per ESPN:

Fan voting counts for 50% of the formula used to select the All-Star starters, along with voting by the media (25%) and NBA players (25%). There will be three frontcourt players and two backcourt players in each starting lineup, while coaches choose the reserves.

The NBA announced earlier that it is going to be reverting back to the classic way of doing the NBA All-Star game, which is East vs West.

Here is the full press release from the NBA:

"As the league celebrates basketball’s deep roots in the state of Indiana, the 73rd NBA All-Star Game will feature the return of both the classic matchup between the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference and the traditional scoring system with four 12-minute quarters. The voting process to determine the NBA All-Stars will remain the same, with 12 players selected from each conference.

"While the NBA All-Star Game will no longer have an untimed fourth quarter or conclude when one team reaches or surpasses the Final Target Score, the teams will continue to compete to win each quarter for a charitable organization of their choosing.

NBA All-Star Game team captains will still be named to lead their respective teams. The captains will be the All-Star starter from each conference who receives the most fan votes in his conference during NBA All-Star Voting presented by AT&T.

The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will air on TNT in the United States and reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories in more than 50 languages. Indianapolis will host NBA All-Star for the first time since 1985."
