Dirk Nowitzki Avoided Same Path As LeBron James, Dwyane Wade By Turning Down Kobe Bryant Recruiting Him To Lakers
Former Miami Heat players Dwyane Wade and LeBron James unfortunately were unable to play their entire careers with one team.
They both faced ex-Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki in the NBA Finals at one point. He was fortunate enough to play the whole time with one team. He recently spoke with Rachel Nichols about the time Kobe Bryant trying to recruit him to join the Los Angeles Lakers but explained why he decided to stay in Dallas.
“That felt super cool to get that call from him, but I think he respected me almost more when I said, ‘Listen, I've been here in Dallas so long; I want to finish my career here.’”
Wade defeated Nowitzki in the 2006 Finals to win the Heat's first championship. Nowitizki then knocked off Wade and James in the 2011 Finals to win his only title.
