Erik Spoelstra Compares Anthony Edwards To Dwyane Wade
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is an assistant for Team USA this summer.
One player he has seemingly grown close to is Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.
During an interview with CNN Philippines, Spoelstra shared high praise for the young star, even comparing him to Heat legend Dwyane Wade. When asked who he would compare to Wade Spoelstra had this to say:
Yeah, we know who that is; it's hard not to look at Anthony Edwards and not see Dwyane Wade in him, and I'm not a guy for comparisons; I’m not, but the way he moves, the way he competes, the way he electrifies the crowd Yes, that reminds me of No. 3, and I have told Anthony that, I feel like I'm going back in time."
Spoelstra is considered one of the best coaches in the NBA, so receiving such a premier compliment from him is an honor.
He knows more about Wade’s play style than almost anyone after coaching him for 15 of his 16-year career. Edwards and Wade use their explosive athleticism on both ends of the court to attack the rim but also make hustle plays on the defensive side.
For Edwards, at 22 years old, to be compared to the consensus third-best shooting guard of all time is a sign of great things yet to come.
