How Does Miami Heat’s Twitter Feel About The Current Roster?
Run it back.
Those are the words Miami Heat fans dreaded hearing last season. But that may have been coach Erik Spoelstra's message when asked about the team’s current state.
“I’m just immersed here,” Spoelstra said at a Team USA practice Thursday afternoon. “We have most of our work done. We’re bringing back the majority of our players, and that’s a luxury in this league. Things are so transit, things are moving fast. It seems like it’s faster now than four, five, six years ago. We feel great about our group. We made some nice additions.”
It’s no secret Heat fans are not envious of keeping the same roster that’s fallen short of a title multiple times. Jimmy Butler’s individual performances have been exemplary but he can’t do it alone.
The fanbase has constantly begged for outside assistance, with their demands ranking from quality role players to certified superstars. While they appreciate the development of their undrafted players, they realize another star is necessary to clinch a fourth championship in South Florida.
President Pat Riley has used the team’s postseason success to justify his lack of big acquisitions. Many disagree with this train of thought, and instead envision an upgraded team with elevated championship expectations.
Then again, this doesn’t confirm the Heat keep the same roster. Spoelstra is probably saying this to avoid drama and speculation. He certainly wouldn’t want to praise players that aren’t there (i.e. Damian Lillard) and disregard players still on the roster (i.e. Tyler Herro.)
