Jimmy Butler A Coach-Killer? Former Teammate Markieff Morris Says No
Before Jimmy Butler joined the Miami Heat, he was labeled as a toxic teammate and coach-killer.
Dallas Mavericks forward Markieff Morris, a former teammate of Butler's, thinks the exact opposite. He said Butler was an ideal running mate when they played together with the Heat.
"I heard someone say he's not good for every coach...a coach killer...he's not like that at all," Morris said in a YouTube video with Mavericks teammate Theo Pinson. "He comes to practice every day, he don't want to start no trouble."
Butler earned a bad reputation during his stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers. He had a practice with the Timberwolves where he challenged teammates and then had a falling out with the Sixers' management.
Morris disagreed with all the perception.
"Jimmy is so unselfish," Morris said. "He hates the stamp of being one of those 'superstar' guys because he's so much of a team player that when you put that stamp on guys, and [say] like, 'Yo, he's a superstar it's his fault...he's gotta take that last shot,' he doesn't play the game that way. So, his whole thing is like, `don't put that on me...I'm gonna play to win."'
