Miami Heat Facing Less Competition In Donovan Mitchell Sweepstakes Following OG Anunoby Trade

The New York Knicks trade for two-way forward OG Anunoby has removed them from teams able to acquire Donovan Mitchell

The Miami Heat are consistently at the top of the destination list for superstars around the NBA.

The latest of which is Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell. Arguably, Miami’s greatest competition for Mitchell was the New York Knicks. However, New York is acquiring Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby in exchange for a package highlighted by RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. This trade places the Knicks out of contention for Mitchell due to a lack of assets.

The Heat were rumored to have interest in Mitchell over the past few seasons.

The Heat, Brooklyn Nets, and Orlando Magic are three of the top contenders for Mitchell. Miami could offer a package centered around guard Tyler Herro. Meanwhile, Brooklyn and Orlando could make a deal highlighted by young players and first-round picks.

Miami should think twice before entertaining a move for the All-Star guard because of Herro's performance. The star guard is averaging 24.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 46.6 percent shooting and 42.7 percent from three-point range. The former Sixth Man of the Year, alongside Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, has led the Heat to a 19-13 record.

There is no certainty that Mitchell will be traded this season, but the Cavaliers failure to meet expectations earlier on has the media buzzing about the topic.
