Miami Heat vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Takeaways: Second Unit Delivers Win Behind Kyle Lowry’s 28-Points

A look at the five biggest takeaways from the Miami Heat’s win to the Cleveland Cavaliers
In this story:

The Miami Heat took down the Cleveland Cavaliers in a dominant 129-96 victory on Wednesday evening.

Here’s a look at the five biggest takeaways:

1. Kyle Lowry and Jimmy Butler swapped roles in tonight’s game.

Lowry was the biggest reason for the Heat’s 33-point victory margin. He wrapped up the game with 28 points on 69.2 percent shooting in 29 minutes. Meanwhile, Butler acted as the team’s playmaker, finishing the night with nine assists on one turnover. However, he struggled from the field, shooting 3 of 12.

2. Miami’s second unit was the key to victory.

Without multiple prominent players, Josh Richardson, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Caleb Martin, and Orlando Robinson were major contributors. Martin bounced back after having multiple inefficient games. The Heat are no strangers to injuries, but their bench’s contributions are a must-have for their success.

3. Jaquez is bound to earn an All-Rookie team selection.

Jaquez scored a career-high 22 points on 70 percent shooting in the Heat’s blowout win. After showing promise all season, he found his rhythm. He also added seven rebounds and one steal.

4. Robinson and Thomas Bryant filled in nicely with Bam Adebayo sidelined.

The backup big men for Miami were given the tall task of taking on Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. The duo held their ground, finishing the night with a combined 24 points on 10 of 18 shooting. Not to mention, veteran Kevin Love was out due to personal reasons.

5. The Cavaliers are a wild card in the Eastern Conference.

After a nail-biting overtime victory against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Cavs failed to take down Miami. These inconsistencies will hurt their seeding but make them a dangerous team to face in the postseason. If they catch fire on the right stretch of games, Cleveland is a threat to take down any championship contenders.
