Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler Tells Bam Adebayo Not To Press Offensively
The Miami Heat are surviving the postseason with limited offense from center Bam Adebayo for one reason: Jimmy Butler.
Butler is playing lights out but eventually he's going to need from Adebayo. Still, Butler said he doesn't want his teammate to force it. Just let the game come to him.
"It's OK that he's not making shots, but my goodness, whenever his shot goes in, I think everybody's job is going to be a lot easier," Butler said. "I want that for him. I really do but I want him to press it. I want him to keep playing winning basketball like he has been doing but every chance you get, fire that bad baby up at the rim. That's what I do."
Adebayo's scoring numbers aren't that bad. He's averaging 16.8 points on 48 percent shooting, but there have been stretches he has been invisible. That has left much of the load on Butler.
If Butler can keep up this pace the rest of the series, then so be it. In the meantime, Adebayo is finding ways to impact games other than scoring.
"That's what stars do," Butler said. "They impact the game when they're not making shots, getting stops, getting every rebound, getting steals, diving on the floor. And that's what Bam does for us."
