NBA Central proposes a scenario for basketball fans: “You need a game 7 win on the road; who are you picking to carry you?”

The choices were Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler, Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic, Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant, and Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum. Butler, Durant and Doncic shared the majority of the comment section, with Tatum trailing slightly.

In his two Game 7s with Miami, Butler averaged 31.5 points on 48 percent shooting. He attempted at least 24 field goals in each, while recording solid rebounding and steals. Butler also excels in series-clinching victories:

  • 7-0 RECORD
  • 44.4% FG
  • 30% 3-PT
  • 24.4 PTS
  • 6.6 REB
  • 4.9 AST
  • 1.3 STL
  • 0.6 BLK

Butler has also had extraordinary performances to stave off elimination as well. A few examples are his 47-point performances in Game 6 of the 2022 conference finals and his 35-point triple-double in Game 5 of the 2020 Finals. Whether it be to save the season or clinch a series, Butler has mostly shown he can get it done.

Doncic played in two Game 7s, averaging 40.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and nine points. One of his most renowned moments was his 35-point performance in a blowout victory against the Suns in the 2022 semi-conference finals.

Tatum certainly makes an argument as well, averaging 26.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists in Game 7s. However, some of his more lackluster performances leave some fans staying away from him as a clutch option.

We’ll see which one of them holds the top spot in the upcoming NBA season.
