P.J. Tucker Frustrated After Trade Deadline When Rumored To Want A Return To Miami
The Miami Heat were a top-rumored destination for Los Angeles Clippers veteran P.J. Tucker prior to Thursday's trade deadline.
Tucker was not traded, leading him to openly voice his frustration on social media. Tucker posted a black screen that read, "All this (expletive) is a (expletive) joke..." in the corner of an Instagram story.
Tucker was looking to join a championship contender, where his leadership could have been beneficial. A reunion with the Heat was among the options after he spent the 2022 season with the organization. According to Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, "Tucker will not request a buyout" and remain with the Clippers.
He has appeared in 12 games with the Clippers this season. Tucker is averaging 1.2 points in 14.4 minutes in his limited role. His impact is felt in a leader role, firing up the team to put forth their strongest effort.
Tucker is a proven contributor to championship-caliber rosters, as he was a member of the 2021 Milwaukee Bucks. During the Bucks NBA title run, the forward averaged 4.3 points and 4.8 rebounds. He has acted as a veteran leader for each team in the later years of his career.
His desire to win is admirable, but his contract likely scared away a multitude of contenders. Tucker has two years left on his contract, worth roughly $22.5 million.
