The Key For Terry Rozier's Acclimation With Miami Heat: "Be Himself"
The Miami Heat are trying to ease newly-acquired guard Terry Rozier into the lineup.
They want it to happen organic as possible. No forcing. No making him change his playing style.
If Tuesday was any indication, the process is coming along smoothly. Rozier had 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds in a victory against the Orlando Magic. He also shot 7 of 12 from the field, including two 3-pointers.
"We always tell him to come in here and be himself," Heat forward Jimmy Butler said. "Don't worry about making sure everybody else got the ball. I'll make sure everybody else has the ball, including him. Be aggressive, throw the ball in and at the basket as often as he can. That's going to be his role. That's going to the be the role for him that's going to help us win."
Rozier has played just eight games with the Heat since being traded from the Charlotte Hornets last month. He has scored in double-figures the past three games, but this was arguably his best effort.
He contributed in all phases.
"We're all trying to push him to be himself in every way that he can," Heat guard Tyler Herro said. "Create for himself, create for others. Just being himself."
Some have questioned if Herro and Rozier can co-exist in the backcourt. Their early struggles called for the critics to suggest one of them come off the bench.
But it appears they are developing a chemistry.
"It's getting there," Rozier said. "Like I said, I'm my biggest critic but I know things are going to turn. That's the beauty of it. I'm human. It's part of basketball."
