James Borrego Set to Make Return to Charlotte

The Hornets' ex-head coach will make his way back to Spectrum Center Friday night.
In this story:

This upcoming two-game homestand is a big one for the Charlotte Hornets. They've dropped four of the last five games and six of the last eight. With a 7-15 record, they can't afford to dig a bigger hole in the Eastern Conference standings or they'll fall out of the race much earlier than anticipated.

To tip the back-to-back off, the Hornets will welcome in a familiar face, former head coach James Borrego. Charlotte fired Borrego following the 2021-22 season after getting crushed in the play-in tournament for the second consecutive year. He became the first head coach in the history of the NBA to be fired after improving his team's win total by 10 or more in consecutive years. Since his firing, the Hornets have a combined record of 34-70 (.326).

Borrego took a year off from coaching before reuniting with Willie Green in New Orleans where he currently serves as the top assistant coach. When the Pelicans make it in to town, it will be the first time Borrego has stepped foot in Spectrum Center since his firing.
