Knicks Future Power Rankings: Where's New York?

The New York Knicks have just three players signed on the roster three years from now.

The future is now for the New York Knicks. After winning a playoff series for the first time in a decade, the team is committing to its core, running to see how far it can go in the next few seasons.

The window won't last forever, though: as it stands, RJ Barrett, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo are the only players under contract three years from now. That's why Bleacher Report's three-year outlook power rankings have the Knicks at No. 16.

"Conservative, run-it-back moves are typically more common than big splashes for most organizations, though," Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey writes. "If New York re-signs Jalen Brunson, Immanuel Quickley, Mitchell Robinson and a few of the other principal players of the current team, they should stay in the playoff hunt for a while."

The direction the Knicks will go beyond this season remains to be seen. It appears that New York will run it back with mostly the same core it had last season (with the exception of swapping out the traded Obi Toppin for DiVincenzo) in hopes that the chemistry will improve and the natural progression of the team will keep it in contention for a deeper playoff run. However, if that doesn't happen, the Knicks could go hunting for a superstar in the offseason.

New York has been linked to several different stars should they request trades, including Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo. If that's the direction the Knicks end up going in, there's a good chance that will keep them among the NBA's contenders three years from now.
