Knicks' Immanuel Quickley Lands Shoutout in Damian Lillard Rap Single
Even with incessant trade rumors following him this offseason, Portland Trail Blazers star guard Damian Lillard is still dropping rap albums like he does defenders.
His latest release, Don D.O.L.L.A., came out on Thursday and features collaborations with rap stars like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Ty Dolla $ign. One of the tracks featuring Wayne entitled "My Daddy's Son" features a brief shoutout to New York Knicks guard Immanuel Quickley as well as Dallas Mavericks counterpart Kyrie Irving
For an NBA superstar who doubles as a rapper, it's no surprise that basketball mentions or references are common in his songs. Lillard's reference to Quickley is written as follows:
"I know I'm here for the top, there's just no better example. I should start selling a manual, I'm like Kyrie with the handle. Gucci from head to the sandals, $51 million that's annual. Get to it quickly, Immanuel. I'm too real to be canceled."
It's no wonder that Quickley was on Lillard's mind while writing the lyrics. The last time the Knicks played Lillard and the Blazers, Quickley helped lead the Knicks to a 123-107 win over Portland on March 14 at the Moda Center. Quickley, the eventual runner-up for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year Award, finished with a Knicks-best 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds, countering a 38-point outing for Lillard.
Should Lillard remain with the Blazers, he and Portland will face Quickley and the Knicks for the first of two meetings on Jan. 9 at Madison Square Garden.
