Knicks PG Derrick Rose Reunion with Bulls?

Derrick Rose is expected to sign with a new team this summer. Could the New York Knicks guard return to the Chicago Bulls?

It's growing increasingly likely that Derrick Rose has played his final game for the New York Knicks.

With a $15.6 million team option coming up this summer and the 2011 MVP having long fallen out of the nine-man rotation of head coach Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks are almost certainly expected to decline, making Rose a free agent.

While Rose's market may not be vast, HoopsHype's Michael Scotto believes the 2011 NBA MVP could reunite with his hometown Chicago Bulls.

"I think the Chicago Bulls make a ton of sense for Derrick Rose in free agency," HoopsHype said. "It would be a nice homecoming for him towards the end of his career. We saw when he was back in town how beloved he is still by that fan base. They’ll be missing Lonzo Ball, and if they’re trying to compete and win, he’s an excellent bridge as a veteran mentor to some of the young guys on that roster, and I think he still has some gas left in the tank."

Rose, 34, was the Bulls' No. 1 overall pick in 2008 and appeared to have the makings of a star early in his career. By his third season, Rose was a two-time All-Star and one-time MVP, but injuries began to derail his potential. Bulls fans made their lasting appreciation of Rose felt when the Knicks visited United Center in December, granting him a loud welcome upon his entry into the late stages of a New York victory.

The top pick may not have become the greatest version of himself, but he is still lingering in the Association after 14 seasons despite his harrowing injuries. While he may be in the twilight of his career, signing with the Bulls would be a full-circle moment for him.
