Knicks-Pistons No-Call 'Costs' NBA Bettor '$1 Million'

The controversial ending to the New York Knicks' Monday night showdown against the Detroit Pistons proved particularly costly for one bettor.

A high-rolling NBA bettor is blaming one missed call and two points for costing him seven figures.

Known for his sizable wagers on NBA action, Marco Piemonte probably took the Detroit Pistons' Monday night loss to the New York Knicks even harder than livid Motor City head coach Monty Williams after he was poised to win $1,000,000 with a win for the Madison Square Garden visitors.

Piemonte did land $110,000 for taking the Pistons +14.5 but had even more on the moneyline, having bet the straight moneyline for $90,000 at +900 odds. Detroit nearly landed him that victory thanks to 14 fourth quarter points from former Knick Quentin Grimes, but a lack of foul call against Donte DiVincenzo as he battled Ausar Thompson for a loose ball indirectly led to Josh Hart's game-winning two-pointer that gave the Knicks a 113-111 victory.

"Refs took 1 million out of my pocket tonight & I’m sick," Piemonte wrote on Instagram, showcasing his betting slips. "I had pistons +900 & +14.5 … I made 1,100 on game instead of making $1,000,000."

Monday's crew chief James Williams admitted that a foul should've been called against DiVincenzo, which would've given the Pistons possession with just about 10 seconds remaining and a one-point lead. Further support for a foul call was further revealed in the Last Two Minute report unveiled on Tuesday though it also took note of two further no-calls that benefitted Detroit.

Monday's heartbreaker didn't shake Piemonte's faith in the cellar-dwelling Pistons, as he cashed in on over $500,000 by placing two more bets when Detroit immediately returned to action on Tuesday against the Chicago Bulls. He bet $135,000 more on the Pistons +11 and $100,000 on the Detroit moneyline to earn the fateful tally. Perhaps furious from the win supposedly stolen from them in Manhattan, the Pistons (9-49) downed the Bulls 105-95 to end a six-game losing streak.

Detroit returns to MSG on March 25 for a third and final meeting with the Knicks.
