What Warriors Ex Donte DiVincenzo Brings to Knicks Perimeter
The New York Knicks are upgrading their three-point shooting and depth by signing former Golden State Warriors guard Donte DiVincenzo.
New York signed DiVincenzo to a four-year, $50 million contract earlier this offseason, reuniting him with former Villanova Wildcats teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. Now, the Knicks have a chance to employ a Villanova backcourt with Brunson, Hart, and DiVincenzo, giving New York a lot of flexibility and versatility in that part of the court.
“Landing Donte (DiVincenzo) adds to our depth on the perimeter," an anonymous Knicks personnel member told Spotrac's Keith Smith. "We have a lot of different options 1 through 3 now. It’s our deepest spot on the team.”
DiVincenzo, 26, averaged 9.4 points per game with the Warriors last season alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. While DiVincenzo isn't expected to play with players on the same level as the "Splash Brothers," his presence should help New York tremendously. The Knicks need help in the three-point shooting department, and DiVincenzo's 39.7 percent mark from last season would help fulfill that need.
Among the reasons the Knicks were eliminated from the playoffs last season was its three-point shooting crashing down against the Miami Heat, shooting less than 30 percent in the six-game conference semifinal loss. Adding DiVincenzo gives the team some insurance that a meteoric fall won't happen again.
