Knicks' Donte DiVincenzo Praised by Jay Wright: 'Incredible!'

The New York Knicks have made it a point to assemble a squad headlined by former Villanova Wildcat stars, with Donte DiVincenzo being the most recent addition.

Headed into the upcoming NBA season, it's going to be hard to find anyone more elated than Villanova Wildcat fans that double as New York Knicks fans.

The Knicks have made it an apparent point to assemble a squad headlined by former Villanova stars. They made the playoffs this past season on the back of newly-acquired guard Jalen Brunson while getting big minutes from trade deadline arrival Josh Hart. But as if that wasn't enough, New York signed former Wildcats guard Donte DiVincenzo to a four-year, $46.8 million deal, reuniting him with his former teammates.

Legendary championship-winning Villanova coach Jay Wright has been able to watch his former players as he enjoys retirement and recently reflected on what DiVincenzo brings to New York.

“Donte’s got an incredible work ethic and basketball IQ,” Wright told The New York Post's Ethan Sears. “He’s one of those guys on the different teams he’s played for, whatever they need him to do, he can do.

Wright's praises speak volumes, but so does DiVincenzo's resume. He won two national titles at Villanova, winning the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player in the latter run in 2018, before coming off the bench for the 2021 champion Milwaukee Bucks. Now coming off a season with the Golden State Warriors that saw him play in a career-high 72 games, DiVincenzo will look to rekindle the chemistry with his former Wildcats in hopes of adding some more championship success to their resume as teammates.

"I think it’s going to be a great mix. They’re all going to play to win," Wright said. "They take great pride at this point in their career of making the Knicks a winner.”
