Knicks Injuries: Will Jalen Brunson Play vs. Clippers?
The New York Knicks have announced that starting point guard Jalen Brunson will not play in Saturday afternoon's showdown against the Los Angeles Clippers (4 p.m. ET, MSG).
Brunson will miss his third consecutive game due to a foot injury sustained in last Friday's win over Miami. It'll also be his seventh missed game overall and the Knicks have gone 3-3 in his absence. While the Knicks pulled off a thrilling double-overtime victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday they fell to the lowly Charlotte Hornets with their star guard two nights later, a loss that ended a nine-game winning streak. Combined with a Thursday loss to the Sacramento Kings, one that saw Brunson return to the starting five before leaving after halftime, New York (39-29) has now lost two in a row for the first time since the end of January.
Prior to his medically-induced departure, Burnson had a New York-best 19 points in the first half as the Knicks fought back to force a five-point loss to the current runners-up in the Western Conference after trailing by 16 at halftime. On the season, he's averaging 23.8 points and 6.1 assists, both career highs after inking a four-year, $104 million contract last summer.
Alas, Brunson isn't the only entry on the Knicks' injury report, as the team also lists reserve center Isaiah Hartenstein (ankle) as probable. Along with All-Star Julius Randle, Hartenstein is one of two Knicks that has played in all 68 games to start this season. Hartenstein is set to return to Los Angeles to face his most recent place of employment before he joined the Knicks alongside Brunson last season. The showdown against the Clippers (35-33) is the second leg of a four-step Western Conference tour and the first half of a Los Angeles weekend doubleheader with the surging Lakers on the docket on Sunday.
