Is Jacob Toppin Due For a Knicks Promotion?
The New York Knicks have a bit of a problem when it comes to the post positions: center Mitchell Robinson may be out for the year and Julius Randle is the only true power forward in the rotation.
A solution to the latter problem could linger with the club's G League affiliate in Westchester where Jacob Toppin has been making a name for himself and looking to prove that should be known as more than just the younger brother of Obi, New York's 2020 first-round who was traded to Indiana last summer.
The undrafted rookie out of Rhode Island/Kentucky impressed on a major G League stage on Friday night as Westchester took a 107-99 decision from the Indiana Mad Ants in the Showcase Cup final. In the finale to the G League's in-season competition, Toppin led all scorers with 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds while also stealing four from the Indiana Pacers' prospects.

Toppin currently holds one of the Knicks' two-way contracts and made his brief NBA debut on Dec. 5, playing two minutes in a loss to Milwaukee. While standing at only 205 lbs., the 6-9 Toppin could be the solution to the depth problem that the team has at power forward since his brother departed. Josh Hart has mainly filled the role this season but his height at 6-4 hasn't worked in his favor.
Toppin and the rest of the Westchester Knicks will be back in action on Wednesday night against Toronto's affiliate, Raptors 905, at Westchester County Center (7 p.m. ET, ESPN+).
