NBA All-Star: Which Team Will Knicks' Julius Randle Play For?
Julius Randle's dream came true at the NBA All-Star Game.
In the fifth round of reserve selections of the exhibition's Draft, the New York Knicks' representative was selected to be on LeBron James' team for Sunday's main event at Vivint Arena (8:30 p.m. ET, TNT). Randle and his temporary teammates curated by the Los Angeles Lakers superstar and the NBA's newly-minted all-time leading scorer will battle a group assembled by Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Knicks' Sunday representative made his desire to play with James apparent earlier this week, remarking that he'd love to collaborate with the Association face "before he gets his old (butt) out of here." James was kind enough to fulfill another wish of Randle's, drafting the Knickerbocker's close friend and Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George.
Joining Randle and George on the Team LeBron bench is Jaylen Brown (Boston), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota), DeAaron Fox (Sacramento), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana), and Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis). In the starters' round, James chose Dallas Mavericks teammates Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, as well as Joel Embiid (Philadelphia) and two-time defending MVP Nikola Jokić (Denver). Randle previously referred to Dončić, who reps the New Yorker's hometown of Dallas, as his "favorite player" that also made it to Salt Lake City.
Recent history bodes well for Randle, George, and their compatriots if they have sights on winning the exhibition: James has been a captain for each of the five "fantasy draft" All-Star formats and his squad has prevailed each time. That includes two wins over Antetokounmpo-led groups in 2019 (Charlotte) and 2020 (Chicago). Randle was on the receiving end of one of those defeats in 2021, repping a team led by Kevin Durant in a 170-150 loss in Atlanta.
Sunday's drafting was the first instance of drafting on the hosting hardwood before tip-off.
