Sorry, Red Five. This brand of rebellion is seafoam and black.

The New York Liberty united its primary colors in unveiling a new "Rebel Edition" uniform from Nike on Friday morning. Accoladed newcomer Jonquel Jones modeled the new look, which will take to the floor during the Liberty's third full season in Brooklyn this spring/summer.

The unique grainy texture of the jersey unites the colors and is described in a team release as a "gritty, scattered black pattern on the jersey and shorts is a nod to streetball in New York City and the important role it plays in growing the game for the next generation of athletes."

Jones' shorts also showcase what appears to be a new alternate logo for the Liberty, an interlocking NY that gives way to an L. While some may draw comparisons to the famed caps of MLB's New York Yankees (as well as the one-time shorts of the New York Knicks, the Liberty's former NBA sibling), it is instead described as "typography and throwback sport monograms (that) pays respect to historical women’s basketball clubs."  The lower body portion of the jersey also features a darkened flame, an obvious reference to the Liberty's torch-bearing Statue of Liberty namesake.

Fans can purchase the jersey online at the Liberty's team store. The team is set to open the 2023 season on May 19 when it battles the Washington Mystics on the road.
