Quentin Grimes: New York Knicks' Top Trade Asset?

The New York Knicks have plenty of tradeable assets but only one has a name for the time being.

The New York Knicks have made a concerted effort toward building a serious roster that can contend in the Eastern Conference.

If they want to make elite additions to that roster through trades, Bleacher Report's Dan Favale had three suggestions ... but, curiously, only one has a name for now: the other two assets on the last are the Knicks' originally scheduled first-round picks in the 2028 and 2030 drafts.

"Quentin Grimes' inclusion is a must. He is 23, knocks down threes, can guard up, and has two years left on his rookie deal," Favale writes. "Beyond him, it's all about draft picks. Settling on which first-rounders is hard. The Knicks' own selections shouldn't have much value when the front office isn't short-circuiting itself left and right. But 2028 and 2030 firsts are far enough out to jack up their mystique."

Grimes was drafted by New York with the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft and now has two full seasons under his belt. The Houston alum has averaged 9.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 38.4 percent from deep. Grimes was invited to Salt Lake City to partake in the 2023 Rising Stars competition back in February, stealing the show with 27 combined points in the two-leg exhibition.

After only starting in six out of 46 games during his rookie season, he joined the starting lineup in year two, starting in 66 out of 71 games. The Knicks posted a 39-27 record in those games.

The Knicks have been linked with many star players in recent years such as Damian Lillard and Joel Embiid, but so far have made no attempt to trade for any.

For now, Grimes will begin his third NBA season as an integral part of New York's roster. The Knicks will open the season at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. against the Boston Celtics.
